Hello, my lovelies, and welcome to another insightful episode! Today, we're diving into the complex topic of codependency. Are you feeling overwhelmed or stressed, like nobody understands you? You might be dealing with codependency in your relationships.
Codependency is a psychological concept often used to describe a type of dysfunctional relationship where one person is overly reliant on another for their emotional or psychological well-being. This often involves one person assuming the role of caretaker while the other is dependent, leading to unhealthy patterns that are hard to break.
We'll explore the characteristics of codependency, such as excessive care and support, control, over-involvement, low self-esteem, poor boundaries, difficulty expressing emotions, and enabling destructive behaviors. These traits can manifest in various relationships, not just romantic ones, but also in friendships, professional dynamics, and parent-child interactions.
Understanding the root causes of codependency is crucial. Often, these behaviors stem from past abuse or neglect, leading to a deep-seated need for approval and control. Whether it's emotional, verbal, or physical abuse, these experiences shape how we interact with others and view ourselves.
We'll discuss how to recognize these patterns in your own life and the importance of setting healthy boundaries. Accepting that change is necessary is the first step towards reclaiming your sense of self. Join us as we navigate through examples of codependency in various relationships and learn strategies to break free from these unhealthy cycles.
Don't forget to check out our Finally Connected program, an eight-week journey to help you find freedom and connection with yourself. Change starts with recognizing the problem and taking proactive steps towards a healthier you.
